Desert

Spent some time on a work field trial in a southern California desert. One word, hot. 119F. It was beautiful in its own way and we even saw a desert rainbow. Really amazing.

Wood

We've been working hard to get ready for the winter and I have to say this looks to be the most prepared, in terms of wood, we've ever been. A friend had some giant poplars fall down in the back of their home and Jeanette and I have been working on clearing them. This will go well with the oak and maple we already had. Looking forward to some nice winter evenings by the woodstove.

The Door

Well, I've been working on several things on the truck trying to get it all fixed up.  One of them was the passenger side door which you had to run into like a linebacker in order to shut.  I figured, how hard could this be to fix... well it wasn't easy.  I definitely made it worse before it got better.  For several days the truck was without a door while a painstaking worked through fixing a problem I created ( moved the hinges on the frame; ran the door accidentally into the quarter panel; bend metal on both pieces).  Ultimately I re-bent the metal and replaced the bushings in the upper hinge.  She closes nicely now, and looks a little meaner with the missing paint and dented body.

Busy Weekend

It was a busy weekend with fall like weather.  On Friday night we went to the Delaware Saengerbund for the local Octoberfest celebration with Joe, Viola, Timm, Rachel, John, Wendy and Colin.  It is a really great time with authentic German food and beer.  We went with the bratwurst, potato salad and slaw, and trialed all the German beers.  Delicious.  We finished the night working off some calories on the dance floor.
Saturday I headed to Atlantic City with for Ed's bachelor party with Pete, John, Jeff, Timm, MJ and Will.

That same day Jeanette was quite bust with helping Colin and Joe on the morning with harvesting honey from Colin's bee hives.  They captured almost 5 gallons of honey from those busy bees.

In the evening she went up to Quakertown to celebrate Ellie's 4th birthday - she's growing up so quick.  It was a princess theme, and boy did she look cute (I'm sorry I had to miss the party).

Weekend Visitors

This weekend we were visited by Joey and Kaylan. It was really great visiting with them. On Friday we attended the gore volleyball picnic.  Unfortunately we were not in the finals this year but it made for a more enjoyable time hanging out with friends and family.

On Saturday we attended the Pennsylvania rennaisance fair. It was a great time - really funny and entertaining. We think dad may have aspirations of a second career as a juggling jester someday.

Finally on Sunday mom held a picnic with the whole family. The weather was a bit overcast but we made the most of it taking a little hike at Lake Nockomixon. It was great to see them and I only wish we could hang out more often.

BLTs

For over 2 years now we've had the good fortune of joining with friends for BLTs.  This is an almost weekly event hosted by Joe.  Now you may be saying how could BLTs bring this many people together?  These sandwichs are ridiculous and the time spent with friends even better.  So the recipe... Joe purchases extremely high quality bacon - the thickest cut most delicious bacon you've ever had - from a special farm.  The bread is typically home baked no knead bread which has a hard crust and soft doughy inside.  Tomatoes and letuce are typically from someones garden or the grocery when not in season. And then there is mayo and cabot Extra sharp cheese to garnish.  The sandwichs are huge and trying to describe in words is almost impossible.  The night typically starts at 8 (ussually after mountain bike riding) and half the fun is waiting for the bacon to cook.  All the great smells fill the kitchen where everyone congregates and shares from a selection of beer and wine.  Joe has done a great job keeping the effort alive and we really are fortunate to be able to share in this time with all the friends that come to join in.

Labor Day Weekend

We had a nice holiday weekend, starting out on Sunday with a trip to Hershey Park with Brigitte Kevin Ellie and Mitchell. It was a perfect day for the park and Mitch and Ellie were awesome on the rides. Mitch rode his first coaster with a loop - the super dooper looper. Uncle Dave, despite his best efforts, had some issues keeping up with the kids on their rides but did enjoy the bumper cars.

Sunday we went out to safe harbor with joe and Viola for some climbing. It again was a perfect day to be out, highs in the 70s. In the evening we went to dog bridge farms for a barbeque hosted by the Kelsey's and Lubmores. Food was great and we had a nice bonfire to finish the evening. Got to use the truck to rescue joe and Viola who had a flat on the tandem riding to the bonfire.

Monday we did some grocery shopping and made a crockpot feast. Also took a walk on the springlawn trail with Shiloh Wendy and john along the big elk creek. After the walk the lady's were beat and took a nap while I worked on the truck.  Rachel came by for dinner and brought Lucy and Haley. Shi is tired this evening needless to say. It was a great 3 day weekend.

The Truck

So for years now I've wanted a pickup truck. At long last the dream has been realized. A real Craigslist special. She's a 1991 Ford F150 4x4 Lariot edition with all the bells and whistles for its time. She runs great for a 20 year old truck and we're looking forward to some great times with her.
