Leaky Pipes

Ahh, the joy of old homes. Jeanette astutely noticed the sump pump going on yesterday and we hadn't had any rain.  I went down in the basement to find water on the floor and hear that dreaded hissing sound.  This is the third time in the past couple months we've had a tiny pinhole leak in a copper supply line.  Nottice the tiny little dark are in the center of the pipe on the right side of the valve - that's it.  The fix this time was pretty easy but man this is getting annoying.

  1. If this issue occurs again, I think the best thing to do is to replace the pipe with a new one. Looking at the picture, the pipe seems pretty old and worn. The problem with that is it might break at any time because of being used for so long. After all, aging and wear and tear can significantly damage pipes like that. Repairs might not be enough because it’s the durability of the pipe that is in question.

  2. I agree with you, Carmella. Problems like these need a quick fix. Don’t wait until it becomes a more serious, not to mention expensive, problem. Keep in mind that neglected leaky pipes might lead to flooding, and that flooding leads to structural damage.

  3. You’re right, Carmella. Replacing an old pipe may compel a lot of hard work, but it will surely pay off in the long run. Anyway, this post was still from two years ago. Maybe, David and Jeanette have replaced the pipe already. =)

  4. Ooh, leaky pipes! That’s just very distressing to deal with. Well, Linda has a point. I’m quite certain that they’ve already changed the rustic pipe with a new one, or haven’t you, David and Jeanette? Hehe! =)
